Guangzhou Auto Show: Jaguar XJS debuts in China

TATA brings the new XJS to China and it does not come cheap: 2.498.000 yuan. TATA decided not to bother about 6-cilinders, the only available engines are the 510hp supercharged V8 and the naturally aspirated V8 with 385hp. Jaguar is relatively new in China and faces an uphill fight against Audi, Benz and BMW, which all do have cheaper V6′s on offer.
Guangzhou Auto Show: facelifted Suzuki SX4 Listed & Priced

The SX4 sedan is made in China by Suzuki’s joint venture with Chang’an Automotive. It is selling well but not as good at Suzuki would like. The facelift needs to bring sales up with a more luxurious look and better materials in the in terior. The look part seems all right, it got a lot more chrome which indeed makes it look a bit more expensive. Price then: starts at 79.800 and ends at 123.800. Engines 1.6 or 1.8, manual or auto.
Ford China JV sales up 32 pct this year

Ford Motor expects its China car venture to sell a record 305,000 Ford branded vehicles this year, up 32 pct from a year earlier, a senior company executive said on Monday.
And sales should grow at least as fast as the market in 2011, Richard Baker, deputy general manager of the venture’s sales arm, told Reuters ahead of the week-long Guangzhou auto show which opens to the public on Tuesday.
He also said he expected a limited impact on sales of the Ford Fiesta if China next year ends a tax incentive for small cars introduced in 2009. Read more »
Guangzhou Auto Show: BMW 520Li Listed & Priced

The BMW 5-series is made in China by BMW’s joint venture with Brilliance Automotive, alongside the 3-series. The Chinese fiver only comes as stretched ‘L’ and was available as 523, 528 and 535. The 520Li is the new entry-level car and it costs only 418.600 yuan, the 523 starts at 449.600 yuan. The 520Li gets a 6-in-line with 177hp and 320nm mated to an 8-speed tiptronic.
Guangzhou Auto Show: Citroën Metropolis

The Citroën Metropolis Concept debuted earlier this year at the Shanghai Expo, it is designed by Citroën’s ‘China Design Center’ in that same city. The Metropolis will be made in China as DS9 by Citroën’s new joint venture with Chang’an Automobile.
The Metropolis is a plug-in hybrid with a 4.0 V8 and fuel consumption is only 2.6 liter per 100 km, says Citroën… The car that debuted in Shanghai had a V6. Guess there is actually noting under the bonnet and somebody screwed up. Whatever powerplant is gets the Metropolos/DS9 sure is an incredible looking machine that certainly will find a lot of buyers in China.
No plans yet for export to other parts of the world, it is hard to imagine however that Citroën would not bring it to France. Read more »
Guangzhou Auto Show: Guangzhou Auto Trumpchi Listed & Priced

Guangzhou Auto debuted the Trumpchi sedan at the Guangzhou Auto Show. It is based on an Alfa Romeo 166 platform and comes with a Fiat/Alfa 2.0 Twinspark engine mated to a manual, an automatic or a tiptronic. Price starts at 122.800 yuan and ends at 189.800 yuan.
Guangzhou Auto Show: Gonow Aoosed G5

The Gonow Aoosed G5, no kidding, debuted at the Beijing Auto Show in April and is now back again in Guangzhou. This time it is ready for the market and made in a joint venture with Guangzhou Automotive. Car and weird name didn’t change a bit.
Size: 4640×1815×1800, wheelbase is 2745 and weight 1700kg for the 2wd and 1790 for the 4wd. Engine is a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.4 with a far too less 100kw and 196nm.
Guangzhou Auto Show: Lifan 320 Snow Edition

Lifan brough a special 320 to the Guangzhou Auto Show. One would call it ‘cross’ but Lifan doesn’t, they call it ‘Snow Edition’, Xuediban in Chinese. It won’t be any good in real snow though because all the extra spoilers actually bring it closer to the ground. Engine: 1.3 with 88hp and 88nm. Price starts at 34.800 yuan and ends at 40.800 yuan.
Guangzhou Auto Show: BYD G3R Listed and Priced

BYD launched the G3R, a hatch based on the G3 sedan. The G3R gets 1.5 and 1.8 litre engines mated to a manual or cvt. Price starts at 67.900 and ends at 86.900. The G3R will hit showrooms in the first half of 2011.
Guangzhou Auto Show: Hyundai Verna hatchback Listed & Priced

Beijing-Hyundai launched the new Verna hatchback on the Guangzhou Auto Show. Engines: 1.4 and 1.6, 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto. 1.4 has 107hp and 137nm, 1.6 has 123hp and 155nm. Price starts at 73.900 and ends at 106.900, available early next year.
