New BYD G6 sedan to get 1.5 Turbo in China

The soon to be listed BYD G6 sedan is the first BYD to get the new 4-cylinder 1.5 liter direct injection turbocharged engine under the hood. It has a healthy 113kw and 240nm. Other engines are the 1.8 with 90kw and 160nm and the 2.0 with 103kw and 186nm.

Transmission: dual clutch for the 1.5 turbo, 5-speed auto or CVT for the 1.8 and 2.0. No hybrid, no electric, is this BYD? Yes it is because the automaker didn’t sell any greenyweenies for years so BYD doesn’t even bother anymore. Size: 4860×1825×1462, wheelbase is 2745. Price of the new G6 sedan will start around 120.000 yuan.

  1. No hybrid? BYD is making a mistake.
    BYD never did make a hybrid anyway. It made a PHEV that went by the unknown description, “dual mode”. Why didn’t they just compete directly with Prius and make a too cheap to resist HEV available? There’s no range anxiety with a hybrid, and that’s where BYD is going to have to go sooner or later. People expect it of a battery company that’s got no business fooling around with ICE.
