Mercedes-Benz, BMW offering discounts on luxury-cars in China

Mercedes-Benz and BMW (BMW) dealers deepened their discounts on some models in China last month as slowing property and stock markets weighed on premium-car purchases, according to a research firm.

Average prices of Daimler AG’s basic 2012 Mercedes-Benz C200 sedan at Chinese dealerships were 16 percent below the manufacturer’s recommended price last month, compared with 14 percent in October and 3.4 percent in July, when the model became available, according to data from China Auto Market.

Fiat C-Medium for China based on Dodge Dart, Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Fiat is working on a new compact sedan for the Chinese market, it will be made in China by the new Guangzhou-Fiat joint venture. The sedan is code-named ‘C-medium’. Chinese media reports that the C-Medium will be based on the upcoming Dodge Dart sedan (pictured) which in turn is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback.

New logo for BYD (?)

Chinese media got their hands on one vague pic of what could be the new logo from automaker BYD. It shows a flashy design with wings and a lot of chrome. There is however a word written under ‘BYD’, the pic is too unclear to be sure but it seems to start with ‘Cen…’. This might indicate it isn’t a new logo for BYD but a logo for a new luxury-brand. That would make some sense, Chery has Riich and Geely has Emgrand. Via: Sohu.com.

Chang’an Autonotive is working on a new small-size SUV. Its design is based on the nameless ‘Chang’an SUV Concept’ that debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. The new car is codenamed E301 and will be listed next year, debut is expected at the April 2012 Beijing Auto Show.

Beijing Auto B40 and BC301 to see Production in 2012

The Beijing Auto B40 debuted back in 2010 at the Beijing auto Show, the Beijing Auto BC301 debuted in April at the Shanghai Auto Show. Both cars have not made it to the market yet. Pre-production of the BC301 started in December 2010, but only very slowly and production stopped again soon after it started. Production of the B40 has never been started. There is however, some good news.

A sweet old pic from China. It is April 2003, Changchun Auto Show in Changchun, Jilin Province. Changchun is the home-base of First Auto Works (FAW), the owner of the famous Hongqi-brand.

The pretty girls are hanging ’round a Hongqi CA7202E3-L convertible parade car, based on the CA7202E3 Shijixing (Century Star). The CA7202E3 was based on the Audi 100 that was made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

Zhengzhou Nissan begins work on new R&D center

Zhengzhou Nissan has begun construction work on its brand new 280 million yuan ($44.17m) research and development center. The center will be ready for work by 2013. Zhengzhou Nissan’s 121-hectare R&D center will lead the Japanese manufacturer’s work on light commercial vehicles.

Dongfeng Honda recalls 2,270 Civic sedans

China’s consumer quality watchdog said Thursday that Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co has decided to recall 2,270 Civic sedans manufactured between Sept 26 and Nov 17. Dongfeng Honda said workers forgot to install self-locking nuts in the steering boxes of some vehicles.

The Brilliance Greater China sedan debuted as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. Brilliance has decided to build it and that is good news because this indeed is a beautiful car. Production will start in 2013 and the Greater China will be listed in late 2013 or early 2014.
