The Youngman-Lotus L5 will get a facelift. Most changes are up front with a new grille and a new bumper, resulting in a somewhat sportier look. The bended chrome-strip in the bumper is an interesting feature.

Current L5. The L5 is based on the Malaysian Proton Gen2 and assembled in China by Youngman for the Chinese market. Youngman uses the Lotus-name because Proton is also the owner of the iconic British sportscarmaker.

The L5 will also get a new engine, a Mitsubishi-sourced 1.8 with 147hp and 170nm, mated to a five-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The current L5 is only available with a 1.6 with 123hp and 149nm, mated to a five-speed manual.  Price of the current 1.6 L5 starts at 99.800 yuan, the 1.8 will likely start around 115.000 yuan.

  1. Hows the sale figure of this car in china? It is quite interesting to see youngman gets the more powerful engine from mitsu instead of Proton’s newly launched CFE turbo engine. Are they breaking up with proton/lotus?

  2. I think Proton will start a joint reciprocal project with Hawtai rather than with Youngman. Hawtai will rebadge Proton’s newer models like Exora MPV and Persona replacement model in exchange for Hawtai sedans and suv models.
