Spy Shots: Jonway clones the Suzuki Jimny in China
Published on August 30, 2012 by Joey Wang
It never ends… Jonway has applied in for patent for a new Jonway A280, which loox very very much like Suzuki Jimny. Well, we are glad to see that Jonway is diversifying, their A380 is a copy of the old Toyota RAV4. Jonway however didn’t do a 100% copy-paste, they thought the Jimny a bit too small and therefore stretched it up around the B-pillar.
The real thing. The facelifted Suzuki Jimny was launched on the China auto market in Juyl as an importy, priced from 141.800 yuan to 157.800 yuan. Engine is a 1.3 four-cylinder that poops out only 85hp and 110nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The Jonway A280 will get a 1.6 and will be priced from around 70.000 yuan. Larger engine, lower price, and it is bigger:
Check that B-pillar! Compare:
Suzuki Jimny. Me guess Suzuki never thought about a stretched version, which indeed would do well in China, where car buyers dig all stretched. Too bad, Jonway got there first. Suzuki will be angry but will sadly not be able to do anything about this very clear infringement of its copy rights.

[...] The Suzuki Jimny is imported into China, price starts at 141.800 yuan and ends at 157.800 yuan. The fuzzy little car happens to be popular in China among 25-35 years old unmarried girls. I know two that kinda girls who got one. Another Chinese automaker called Jonway thinks it can sell more Jimny if it was cheaper and a bit bigger, so the hit the copy button. [...]
