Dongfeng Fengdu MX6 hits the Chinese auto market

The new Dongfeng Fengdu MX6 SUV has been launched on the Chinese car market. Price starts at 122.800 yuan and ends at 169.800 yuan ($19.760 – 27.330).  The Dongfeng Fengdu MX6 is based on the old Nissan X-Trail. The platform became available after the new X-Trail launched in March last year.

The old Nissan X-Trail was made in China by the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture. Price started at 207.800 yuan and ended at 269.800 yuan. Engines: a 144hp 2.0 and a 184hp 2.5.

The Fengdu MX6 is powered by that very same 144hp 2.0, and it is the same car exactly bar for the grille and badges, but 38.000 yuan cheaper. The X-Trail was a popular car with a strong following, giving the Fengdu MX6 a good chance on the market, especially among those who think the new X-Trail to SUV-like or too expensive.

The interior was slightly updated with a new center console with a large LCD screen and a Dongfeng logo on the steering wheel. Two transmissions: five-speed manual or a CVT, sending power to all four wheels.

A tad too dark inside but quality appears to be very good.

100% X-Trail from the side.

New rear lights, new bumper, and a very sporty window wing.

The Dongfeng MX6 will be manufactured by Zhengzhou-Nissan, a separate company under the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture focused on making small commercial vehicles, pickup trucks, and cheap SUV’s. Zhengzhou-Nissan vehicles are sold under the Dongfeng and Nissan brand names.

The Nissan logo remains on the engine.

Cars just never die in China. And check that wing!

The Dongfeng Fengdu MX-6 is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, not a 5-speed. Back lights (and frontlights) aren’t new, but original pre-facelift ones.

Also, it doesn’t have all the features the old X-trail had, No electronic stability control system, no electronic limited slip system, no hill descent control. No flat loading bay once the back seat is down because they removed the very handy covered drawer in the luggage compartment.
