The very first Spy Shot showing the new Geely Emgrand Cross completely naked in China, revealing a classy crossover-ish hatchback with heavy chrome elements in the front bumper. And we can confirm the vehicle will indeed be called Geely Emgrand Cross instead of Geely Cross, further proving that the Emgrand brand is back from almost-death.

The Emgrand Cross debuted as a concept on the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. Most notable differences are at the headlights, the mirrors, and the bumper.

A fine interior with loads of buttons, a sporty instrument binnacle, a flat bottomed steering wheel, an electronic parking brake, and a large screen for the infotainment system. The vehicle on these photos is likely top-spec, earlier on we saw other spy shots with a dash without a screen.

At launch there will be two four-cylinder petrol engines available: a 1.3 turbo with 133hp and 185nm mated to a 6-speed CVT, and a 1.5 with about 150hp mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Later on a hybrid version will join the line-up, based around a 1.8 liter four with 88hp, mated to an electric motor with 54hp. Range on pure electric will be 50 kilometer, and full range 650 kilometer.

  1. This hybrid’s range on electric only is “50km” you say….
    Is this borrowed dual mode technology from BYD, or another?

  2. Emgrand is a product range under Geely Auto.

    Geely Auto = Brand
    Emgrand = Product Range

    @Dragin = The system is self developed by Geely Auto, nothing to do with BYD.

    • Ashley, c’mon, you know I was a Jili fan before Geely was cool. 🙂
      Come back down to earth…..

      My question is about the way the electric operating “range” is stated here. If this model in fact has an electric operating “range”, then it must be of the dual mode hybrid type, since most, if not all, standard hybrids do not have an electric operating “range”.
      Ergo, I was questioning where Geely got the dual mode technology.

      And if Geely, as you suggest, has developed the less common dual mode technology on its own, then why hasn’t that been reported by the media?
