We don’t know whether we should laugh, or cry. This is a BYD-Daimler Denza ‘prototype’, previewing the real Denza that will be launched on the Chinese car market in 2014. BYD-Daimler is a joint venture between BYD Automobile of China and Daimler-Benz of Germany, aimed at making electric cars for the Chinese auto market. The Denza is their first car, based on the old Benz B-Class with the electric powertrain of the BYD e6.

New spy shots from the BYD-Daimler Denza testing in China. It’s been silent for long, the last time we saw the Denza on the road was in March last year. The BYD-Daimler Denza NEV concept debuted in April last year on the Beijing Auto Show, and in June last year we heard the Denza would hit the market this year. But after that things got very silent, until now.

Here we have the very first pictures of the new BYD-Daimler Denza arriving at the exhibition hall for the Beijing Auto Show that starts tomorrow. The blue car on pics still loox very much like a concept car meaning that it won’t be on the Chinese car market very soon.

The BYD-Daimler joint venture officially launched its new Denza brand today at a little party in Shenzhen. They did not show the car but did announce the Chinese name: Tengshi (腾势). We had already seen the logo but it was now official and in the right colors, depicting a water droplet. They also unveiled a really catchy English slogan: “EV the Future”, and a website without a car: www.denza.com. The car will debut on April 23 on the Beijing Auto Show, it will hit the market in 2013.
