BYD fails to meet 2010 sales target, report says

Published on January 6, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

Copycat automaker BYD sold 60.000 verhicles less than expected. Biggest surprise is they still sold so many. Expectations for 2011 are a little bit better, except for BYD’s non-selling EV’s. Read on for more deails:

Shenzhen-based carmaker BYD Co sold a total of 519,806 vehicles last year, falling short of its revised target of 600,000 units for 2010, according to a Reuters report. Top executives of the carmaker were not able to be reached for comment on the reported figures Tuesday.

The latest reported sales figures have clouded the prospects of the once promising automaker. Due to disappointment on its weak sales, investors have been dumping the shares of BYD, sending the stock down 40 percent over the past year, making it one of the worst performers in the city’s bourse.

BYD’s new big sedan will debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show and was standing unattended on a parking lot next to the exhibition center. Engines: 2.0 and 2.4, 5-speed manual or auto. Size: 4860×1825×1462, wheelbase is 2745.

BYD F3e is Dead

Published on December 9, 2010 by Tycho de Feyter

Electric cars won’t work in China, not now and not in the next few years. Why? There is no infrastructure to charge electric cars, at all. There are a few pilot projects here and there but those usually only work with one kind of car and nothing else. With ‘infrastructure’ I don’t mean special superchargers only, there is no ‘normal’ 220V infrastructure for charging either.

New energy vehicle sales in China disappoint automakers

Published on December 7, 2010 by Tycho de Feyter

What a surprise. Auromakes are ‘dissapointed’ by their sales of hybrids and EV’s. Customers blame the lack of an infrastructure for charging as the most important reason not to buy an EV. Not a surprise, there is simply no infrastructure for EV’s in China. For hybrids the reason not to buy is the high price, government subsidies did not help.

BYD only sold 54 of its E6 EV and only 290 F3DM hybrids from January to October. Eat that, Warren Buffet! Chang’an Auto decided to stop production of the Jiexun HEV after only one year because they “didn’t sell any”. More misery in the article from Global Times (state owned magazine) below:
