Ford to make more Engines in China

Ford Motor Co will bring 20 new engines and transmissions to China by 2015 to power the 15 new models it plans to introduce during the period.

The carmaker announced at the Guangzhou auto show last week that the new powertrains will include a 1.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engine that will be locally produced at its three-way tie-up with Chang’an Automobile Group and Mazda Motor Corp in the southwestern city of Chongqing.

Ford China sales up 9%

Ford China reports a 8.8% increase in sales, despite the fact that in the past months both sales and production volumes are registering results below analysts expectations.

Since the beginning of the year, specifically in January – October period, Ford sold 426,814 vehicles compared to 392,152 vehicles sold in the same period last year.

Finally, Ford starts to take China seriously. It was about time. From ChinaDaily:

US carmaker Ford Motor Co vows to speed up introduction of new products to China to further tap the world’s largest vehicle market, a move crucial to achieving its ambitious global mid-decade growth targets. In a recent interview in Beijing, Ford CEO Alan Mulally said the carmaker “will bring our best products into China as quickly as we can”.
