After being delayed for almost half a year due to the parts-crisis in Japan the new Suzuki Splash has been officially listed on the China car market. Price starts at 54.900 yuan and ends at 61.900 yuan. The Splash is made in China by the Changhe-Suzuki joint venture. Engines: 1.4 with 70kw and 112nm, top speed is 165km/h. Via: Cheshi.com. The good old Suzuki Wagon R, made in China by the Changhe-Suzuki joint venture, gets a big brother. It will be sold alongside the standard Wagon R. This yet nameless variant is stretched by some 15 centimeters behind the behind the C-pillar for more space in the back.

The stretched Wagon R also gets an updated front and even a brand new logo, this likely means the stretched car will be sold under some new sub-brand under the joint venture. Logo can also mean Suzuki is trying to fool us. We’ll be sure at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month when it is expected to debut. Power will come from a new 1.2 with 70kw and 107nm.

All cars can be stretched in China. Think Audi A4L, Volkswagen Passat, Benz 300L, BMW5, Volvo S80L and others. But it doesn’t happen very often that one automaker stretches a really very small car. That though seems to be exactly what Changhe-Suzuki is doing with the Wagon R. It is stretched by some 10 centimeters behind the C-pillar, resulting is more space for the rear passengers. Changhe-Suzuki seems to be working on a stretched version of the WagonR. The extra space is added between the rear door and rear window, space would go to passengers in the back. An interesting idea. No word yet on launch date or price.
