Chengdu Auto Show 2011: new Honda Civic sedan for China

The new Honda Civic sedan was launched at the 2011 Chengdu Auto Show, it will be listed on the Chinese car market in late October. Price will start around 120.000 yuan. The CIvic is made in China by the Dongfeng-Honda joint venture. The China-Civic is basically the same car as the American Civic with some chrome added.

Honda cuts 2011 China car sales target by 13%

Honda Motor Co said on Wednesday it was cutting its 2011 car sales target for China by 13 percent as Japan’s earthquake and tsunami in March disrupted its supply chain and forced production cutbacks, Reuters reported.

Honda lowered its sales target for China to 638,000 cars, down from its initial target of 731,500, and 2 percent lower than its 2010 sales, the report said.

Honda will launch its new CR-V SUV late this year. Worldwide debut is expected at Los Angeles Auto Show or Tokyo Motor Show. Debut in China will then be at the December Guangzhou Auto Show. Production in Japan and China will start at almost the same time in early 2012. How different than Ford that is!

Honda China sales down 32% in May

Honda Motor said on Tuesday its car sales in May in China fell 32 percent from a year earlier. The Japanese automaker sold 27,204 cars in the country last month, down from 39,948 units a year earlier, it said in a statement.

In the first five months, it sold 236,264 cars in China, down 8.9 percent from a year earlier, it added. Honda makes cars in China with Dongfeng Motor Group and Guangzhou Automobile Group. Via: ChinaDaily.

- Honda to make Fit EV in China by 2012.
- Honda to import Insight, CR-Z and Fit hybrids in China next year.
- Production of Honda’s two Chinese joint ventures on steam by August.

Honda Motor Co recently announced that its two car joint ventures in China will recover in three months to pre-earthquake production levels or even beyond. As component supplies from Japan increase, Honda’s production in China will adjust accordingly, the company said in an emailed statement.

Honda China says production halt unrelated to Japan quake

Honda Motor said Wednesday that the production halt at its Chinese plants was unrelated to the March earthquake that hampered its supply chains.

Instead, the pause in production was due to a “routine check” that had been scheduled before the earthquake occurred, said Zhu Linjie, a spokesman with Honda Motor (China) Investment Co Ltd, Honda’s Chinese headquarters.

Honda says March China auto sales down 5.3%

Honda Motor Co Ltd said on Wednesday that its March sales in China fell from a year earlier for a second straight month as the world’s top auto market lost steam after years of rampant expansion.

The No 2 Japanese carmaker said in a statement that it sold 58,611 cars in China last month, down 5.3 percent from a year earlier. That followed a 6.5 percent year-on-year fall in February. Read more »

China to get the Honda Civic Type S

A new pic popped up from the upcoming new ‘Chinese’ Civic made in China by the Dongfeng-Honda joint venture. We know the engines for China: 1.8 and 2.0. But te back of this car clearly shows a ‘Type S’ badge which means there will be a sporty Civic as well. Whether it is a purely cosmetic thing or it will get more power to live up to the badge is yet unknown. The new Dongfeng-Honda Civic will debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April.

Honda sales drop 6.5% in February in China

Honda Motor Company, announced Monday it sold 41,000 vehicles in February in China, down 6.5 percent year-on-year. Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd, the company’s joint venture (JV) in China also saw a plunge in sales volume and sold 23,000 vehicles last month, down 19.6 percent.
