Renault waiting for government permission to start making cars in China

Renault, France’s second biggest carmaker wants to enter China this year in a move to boost sales and improve its market share in the booming Asian market, a group’s official said Wednesday.

Speaking to the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Carlos Tavares, Renault’s general director expected to sign a cooperation agreement with the Chinese company Dongfeng by the end of this year.

The Dongfeng EV1 dull electric city-car will be hit the Chinese market in late 2012. The EV1 debuted as the Dongfeng EJ02 concept at the Shanghai Auto Show in April last year. By that time Dongfeng already said they had plans for production and that seems to become reality.

Back to 2008! This is, or was, the Dongfeng DFM7160 sedan. As far as we know there was only one ever made. It was a prototype based in the Citroen Fukang sedan made in China by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture. Dongfeng wanted to bring the DFM7160 to the market in late 2008 but for yet unknown reasons that never happened. The DFM7160 was a carefully kept secret, it didn’t appear on any auto show. New Badass Armored Car from the Chinese Army

Christmas is over so we go back to war. This is the newest kill-machine from the Chinese army. It is a 4×4 armored vehicle based on the Dongfeng EQ2050 (thank you America!). The new car seems designed as a hit-and-run fast attack vehicle with a big turret on the roof for a big fat machine gun or rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

China’s Dongfeng wants to buy Saab’s remaining assets

Dongfeng Motor Group, China’s third-largest automaker, intends to buy the remaining assets of Saab, after the Swedish automaker filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 19, China Economic Net reports. Dongfeng is actively developing its own independent brand of car and its planned acquisition of Saab’s assets may lend technical support to its efforts.

Dongfeng is working on a new SUV that will be based on the Nissan Qashqai from the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture. It will be sold under the Fengshen-brand just like the Dongfeng Fengshen A60 that debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show last month. The A60 is based on the Nissan Tiida from, again, the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture. Dongfeng indeed seems unable or unwilling to develop its own cars. Question is, if they get ‘m so cheap from Nissan, where will all this money go?

Dongfeng to invest 30 billion yuan in own Brands

Dongfeng Motor Corp, the second-largest automaker in China by sales, recently announced it will invest 30 billion yuan ($4.7 billion) in its own-brand vehicles over the next five years.

Aspiring to become the top domestic automaker and a first-class international producer, its goal is to sell 3 million of its own-brand vehicles in 2016, up from about 1 million this year.

Dongfeng to triple own-brand vehicle sales

Dongfeng Motor Corporation, a major Chinese automaker, said on Dec 10 that it aims to triple sales of its own-brand vehicles to 3 million units by 2016. Zhu Fushou, president of Dongfeng Motor, revealed the mid-term target at a ceremony that marked the production of the millionth own-brand vehicle this year.

Dongfeng and Volvo truck plan China joint venture, Dongfeng to make Infiniti cars

Here we have an interesting look into making deals in China. Dongfeng and Volvo (the truck maker) plan a joint venture to make Volvo trucks for the Chinese market. But Dongfeng already has a joint venture with Nissan which makes medium-to-heavy duty trucks that are sold under the Dongfeng-name.
