Tianjin Faw Toyota Motor to recall 33,809 vehicles in China

Tianjin Faw Toyota Motor Co ill recall 33,809 Corolla EX sedans from Tuesday to fix an engine computer malfunction, China’s quality watchdog said on Monday.

The recall affects Corolla EX sedans manufactured between Oct 23, 2010 and Jan 29, 2011, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement on its website.

Toyota’s China sales up 28.4% in July

Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday that it sold 82,500 new vehicles in China in July, up 28.4 percent from the previous year.

The result marks a rapid recovery for the automaker, which had logged year-on-year monthly sales declines until June due to a parts shortage caused by the March earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan. Via: Mainichi.

Toyota to launch small car for China in 2013

Toyota Motor Corp will launch a small car designed for the Chinese market as early as 2013, the Nikkei business daily reported. The new car, powered by a 1.5-liter engine, will be slightly larger than the Etios and priced below 1 million yen ($12,853.6), the paper said.

Toyota to up China engine capacity 30% by 2013

Toyota Motor Corp will spend 20 billion to 30 billion yen ($260-$390 million) to boost engine output capacity in China by 30 percent to 1.3 million units a year in 2013, Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo industrial daily reported on Thursday. Read more »

Spotted in China: Toyota Prius police car

Great for catching criminals, if they are on horseback. A very neat Toyota Prius police car seen on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. This last gen Prius was made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. It didn’t sell so Toyota decided not to make the current Prius in China. At least for now, that is, things might change if China officially announces its new green energy policy for the automotive industry. Many car makers hope for large subsidies. The policy is still a very big secret which usually means the political bosses don’t agree on something.

Small facelift for Toyota RAV4 in China

The Toyota RAV4 gets a small facelift for the Chinese market. The grille is deeper, the fog lights a little bigger, new alloys and a few changes to the mirrors. The RAV4 is made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. Engines: 2.0 and 2.4, price starts at 189.800 yuan.

A new spy shot of a Prius testing in China. But good news it ain’t, Toyota has decided to postpone the introduction of the new Prius Hybrid in China yet again. Toyota will not establish any joint venture sub-brand in China in the coming few years, according to the China Business News on Thursday, citing the Japanese automaker’s managing director Satoru Mouri.

“Toyota isn’t the best brand and we don’t have much market share yet,” said Satoru Mouri. Compared with an expected growth rate of 15 percent in 2011 of the auto industry in China, Toyota has only set a target of 7 percent, to 900,000 units this year.

China’s absence in Toyota’s global recalls sparks suspicions

The tardy inclusion of the Chinese market in Toyota’s latest global recalls may affect the No 1 automaker’s image in the world’s largest auto market, Japanese media commented, according to a report by the China Securities Journal on Monday.

Toyota on Jan 26 announced a worldwide recall of 1.7 million vehicles because of various defects that may cause fuel leakage. China was not included in this recall. Read more »
