Volkswagen to start a Second sub-brand in China

Earlier we heard Volkswagen will set up a new sub-brand with FAW, called Kaili, to make electric cars for the Chinese market. But Volkswagen has two joint ventures in China, FAW-VW and Shanghai-VW. Today we heard that Volkswagen will set up a second sub-brand with Shanghai Automotive. The name is yet unknown but it will also make electric cars. This news popped up in an article from ChinaDaily on the Kaili brand.

Two Audi A6′ for China

China must be the luckiest country in the world. It will get two different Audi A6′, made in two very different parts of the world. The stretched Audi A6L will be made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, just like the old A6L. But Audi will also offer the normal non-stretched A6 (pictured).

More on Volkswagens new Kaili brand in China

While the timetable is uncertain, German carmaker Volkswagen will make an all-new Chinese-brand electric car called the Kaili at its joint venture with FAW Group in China. The car was recently certified by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the company said.

Volkswagen revealed earlier this year that it was in talks with its partners to develop a new, local brand specifically for Chinese consumers, but declined to reveal specifics about the segment or which of its local partners would help produce the new nameplate.

Volkswagen Magotan/Passat B7L naked from all Sides in China

New pictures from the FAW-Volkswagen Magotan B7L, based on the European Passat B7 and made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. The Magotan is extended by 100mm in the middle for more space in the back. Just 100mm more space that is, won’t even fit a dog. The Magotan will be listed in June.

Spy Shots: Audi A6L seen Naked in China

The Audi A6 is made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture in Changchun, Jilin Province. The new A6 will hit the Chineseearly next year. Just like the old China-made A6 it is stretched for more space for passengers in the back and therefore called ‘A6L’. Exactly how much it is longer compared to the European A6 is yet unclear.

New Audi A1 will be made in China

The new Audi A1 debuted on the Shanghai Auto Show. It will be listed on the Chinese market this year as an import to compete with the Mini and Fiat 500, both imported as well. But the A1 will be made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. No exact time has been set but we heard production could start as early as 2013, just in time for the A1′s first facelift.

Volkswagen Magotan / Passat B7L Naked

The very first pic of the new FAW-Volkswagen Magotan B7L, based on the European Passat B7. Wheelbase went up with only 100 mm, from 2712 to 2812. The Magotan will be listed next month. Engines for China: 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 20. TSI, mated to DSG transmission.

Volkswagen Jetta ’2 million’ special edition Listed & Priced in China

A very special edition of the good old Volkswagen Jetta,  it is called the ’2 million’ to celebrate that 2 million of these Jetta’s were made China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. The 2 million has a special paint, special alloys and all the goodies a Jetta-owner could wish for. It was officially listed on the Chinese market for a special price: 88.800 yuan, eight being a very lucky number in China.

The Passat B7 is made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture and called Magotan. For China Volkswagen uses the B7L platform, a B7 stretched by 103mm in the middle for more space in the back. The Magotan B7L was expected at the Shanghai Auto Show but did not appear. Read more »
