Jacoby speaks again: Volvo to ditch premium tag
Published on November 30, 2010 by Tycho de Feyter

Li Shifu, owner of Geely and Volvo, wants the Swedish brand to attack the Germans with bigger cars and bigger engines. Jacoby, Volvo’s new CEO, wants to have noting of it. He wants to focus on vague ‘unique’ Scandinavian values and make a push in the US, not in China.
It is the second time Jacoby speaks in public about how he doesn’t like Geely’s plans for Volvo. Li Shifu did not like it the first time, at all. This might be very well the last time, so good bye to Jacoby? We’ll see the following days…
From AutoCar: Existing Volvo management disagrees with new owners Geely over the direction the company should be taking.
Geely Emgrand EC8 goes Limosine
Published on November 10, 2010 by Tycho de Feyter

Geely is working on a stretched version of the new EC8 sedan. The EC8 is 4905mm long, add around 1500mm in the middle and that makes an impressive 6500. No way any government officer can use this sort of limo to go to work, Geely is likely looking for limosine-rental companies and that one rich business man who really likes a stretched EC8, for some reason.

There is however, no real car yet. The Catamaran is all about ‘mobility’: the machine consist of two motorbike-like modules that can be disconnected. New Volvo S60 seen Testing in China
Published on September 27, 2010 by Tycho de Feyter

Volvo’s new owner Geely wants more Volvo’s in China and quick. The new Volvo S60 was seen testing on Chinese roads, likely for adjusting the suspension. The S60 will hit the market early next year, as an import first but local production seems certain. Question is: where?
The Volvo S40 and S80 are made in China by Chang’an Auto, that joint venture was set up by Volvo’s old owner Ford. Ford’s share is now in Geely’s hands, but for how long would Geely like to work with a competitor?
For now, they have too, since Geely doesn’t have a factory to make Volvo’s. Geely announced it will make a Volvo factory near Shanghai but it will take at least two years to finish.
Until then Geely will sell the S60 as an import and continue, reluctantly I guess, making the S40 and S80 with Chang’an.
