The new Guangzhou Auto Trumpche is based on the Trumpche concept that debuted at the Beijing Auto Show. Earlier spy shots showed a black car as well but that one was hiding in white. The Trumpche on this lonely picture is all naked. The price mentioned is an estimate: 130.000 to 180.000 rmb, guess it ain’t far off. What is sure now however is that the Trumpche is indeed based on the Alfa 166 platform that Fiat sold to Guangzhou Auto earlier. Sure as well the engine: an Alfa/Fiat 2.0 Twinspark with [email protected] and [email protected] The Trumpche is expected to fire up la market in September.
The Trumpche from Guangzhou Auto will start rolling of the line in September. That leaves the Guangzhouren another 3 months to get their showcar to the dealers and it loox like they’ll make it.
The Trumpche stands on an old Alfa 166 that Fiat sold to Guangzhou Auto somtime in 2008. Engine: a 2.0 with “more than” 60kw and “more than” 100nm. That’s all Guangzhou Auto wants to share with the world right now, hope it’s a bit more than 60kw, the Trumpche isn’t a small car.
The X-Power is a concept for a full-size SUV from Guangzhou Auto. Yesterday we heard the machine will start rolling of the line in 2011. The X-Power however is still very concept-like and no information on the engine appeared. The Guangzhou Auto Trumpche sedan, which will likely see production in september this year, had something called a ‘2.0FDi’ engine so the X-Power might get the same.
Guanzghou Auto is a brand from Guangzhou Automobile Corporation (GAC). In july 2009 GAC signed a joint venture with Fiat to produce Fiats for the Chinese market. Prior to that Fiat helped GAC with the development of their own line of cars, named Guangzhou Auto. Most ‘helpful’ was Fiat selling some older platforms, likely Alfa, to GAC. The Trumpche, Chuanqi in Chinese, stands on one of those.
The Trumpche came as a concept but yesterday we heard production will start in september this year, the X-Power SUV to follow in 2011, the same year the first Guangzhou-Fiats are sceduled to roll of the line. The Trumpche on the show had a badge on the back reading ‘2.0 FDi’. Could be a Fiat engine that came with the platform, no more details available for now.
Guangzhou Automotive has joint ventures with Honda, Toyota and will soon start with Fiat. But like all other Chinese automakers they want their own brand as well. This still nameless sedan is Guangzhou’s first ‘Guangzhou’-branded car, it is based on the outgoing Alfa 166 platform that Guangzhou bought earlier and so will be a front-wheel drive. The concept car this car is derived from was cooly called ‘VIP-Lounge’, guess that name will change…
