Zhongxing uses Libyan War to sell cars at the Beijing Auto Show
Published on April 24, 2012 by Tycho de Feyter

Amazing propaganda, or good salesmanship, today at the Beijing Auto Show. Chinese automaker Zhongxing showed images of the Libyan civil war on a giant screen behind its new Weihu pickup truck. The connection: Zhongxing was world news in August last year when television showed Libyan rebels conquering the country in older Zhongxing pickup trucks. The footage was widely shown on Chinese TV, websites and printed media. Zhongxing took note and used the images to promote their ‘stronger than war’ vehicles.

The new Zhongxing Urban Ark debuted today at the Beijing Auto Show, yez, the English name is Urban Ark indeed and that means Zhongxing has hereby won the ‘price for the best weird name’ at the show this year. Congrats Zhongxing! Things however get much better, because there wasn’t just one Urban Ark, there were two. The Urban Ark on the first pic was code named C12, we have seen it around on spy shots a couple of times.

This is the new Zhongxing Urban Ark, a small SUV that will debut at the Beijing Auto Show next week. The Urban Ark already wins my prize for the best named car. Congrats! But!, ‘Urban Ark’ is literally translated from its Chinese name,都市方舟. Zhongxing, aka ZTE Auto, might still use a different English name. If they do, they loose the prize, except for sure when the other name is even better…

New spy shots from the upcoming Zhongxing (aka ZTE Auto) C11 Crossover testing in China and fortunately it still got its funky front instead of a completely different front we saw on some renderings in February, that car is probably a different vehicle based on the same platform.

The best spy shots so far of the upcoming Zhongxing (aka ZTE Auto) C11 crossover. Zhongxing is famous for making big ‘n cheap low quality SUV’s and pick-up trucks but the company wants a go at the passenger car market. The C11 is their first car to break in, meant to compete with cars such as the Greatwall Haval M2 and Suzuki SX4.
Chery and Zhongxing join hands for pick-up trucks
Published on December 8, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

Chery is one of the biggest car-exporters in China. They lack one kind of car: a cheap pick-up truck. Zhongxing Auto, aka ZTE, is one of the biggest pick-up truck makers in China but they don’t export much. Companies did the math and made a deal; Chery is going to export Chery-branded Zhongxing pick-up trucks. Destinations: Africa, South America, Caucasus, Middle East and in a later stage Russia and Eastern Europe.

Yesterday I posted a story on a lone BJ212 in the hands of the Libyan rebels liberating Tripoli. Today a nice set of Chinese Zhongxing pick up trucks used by the rebels to transport men and firepower over Libyan roads. The vehicles are non-army and were delivered by Zhongxing to Libya just before the fighting started.

Patent Applied: new C11 Crossover from Zhongxing Auto
Published on June 9, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

Zhongxing, aka ZTE, is a small Chinese automaker that makes cheap suv’s and pick up trucks. Cheap meaning cheap; a full size suv with loads of goodies can be bought for some 100.000 yuan. But there are many other small Chinese players in the same field. Field meaning field; this sort of cars are for 99% sold in rural China, not in the big cities. Zhongxing so wants to get out and of farmerland and will come up with a new neat looking medium sized crossover thingy called C11.
