SAIC Motor profits up 10.5% in Q1

SAIC Motor Corp reported a 10.54 percent increase in net profit in the first quarter to nearly 6.2 billion yuan on revenues of 145.2 billion yuan, a 17 percent rise from a year ago. The Chinese partner of Volkswagen and GM, which also owns MG and Roewe, sold about 1.34 million vehicles in the first three months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent. Via: ChinaDaily.
Great Wall Motors profit up 73% on Strong Sales

Great Wall Motors reported net profit of more than 1.89 billion yuan in the first quarter, a 73.39 percent surge from the same period a year earlier, the company said on April 25. Statistics from China Association of Automobile manufacturers show 182,000 Great Wall vehicles were sold in the period, up 38 percent. The Haval brand sold 89,000 units in the first quarter, up 92 percent. Via: ChinaDaily.
Chrysler to recall 4.783 cars in China

US automaker Chrysler will recall 4,783 vehicles exported to China to fix defective fuel tanks that could pose safety risks, China’s top quality watchdog said on Friday.
Mercedes-Benz working on long-wheelbase CLA for China

Chinese media say Mercedes-Benz will develop a long-wheelbase variant on the new Mercedes-Benz CLA. The wheelbase of the base CLA is 2699. The CLA had its China-debut on the Shanghai Auto Show last month where it was received very well. A long-wheelbase variant will certainly help sales. Whether Mercedes-Benz will make the CLA in China at the Beijing-Benz joint venture is yet unconfirmed but local production seems very likely.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen recalls 38.000 cars in China

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co Ltd of central China’s Hubei province will recall nearly 38,000 vehicles, China’s consumer quality watchdog said Saturday.
Peugeot 307, Peugeot 308, Peugeot 408 and Citroen C-Quatre vehicles produced from February 23 to April 13, 2012 will be recalled, according to a statement from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Dongfeng to invest $2.5 billion in R&D

China’s second-biggest auto group Dongfeng Motor Corp plans to invest heavily in its newly restructured passenger vehicle brand over the next couple of years. The partner of PSA Peugeot Citroen, Nissan, Honda and Kia said it will spend 15.65 billion yuan in research and development on its own passenger vehicle unit from 2013 to 2020.
New Volvo factory in China to start production before the end of the year

Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Car Corp plans to start local production in China in the last half the year as part of its effort to accelerate growth and catch up with leading German premium brands.
A new Volvo vehicle plant in Chengdu will begin operation before the end of the year, said Doug Speck, the company’s senior vice-president for marketing, sales and customer service. Volvo was acquired by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co in 2010.
Audi wants to sell 700.000 cars per year in China by 2020

Audi plans to boost annual sales in China, its biggest single market in the world, to 700,000 units by 2020, Chairman and CEO Rupert Stadler revealed at the ongoing Shanghai auto show.
It is a goal that many analysts view as conservative for a brand that moved more than 400,000 cars last year.However, the target is rational given the slowdown in the nation’s premium car market in the first quarter of this year.
New logo for Chery in China

Chery Automobile has launched its new corporate logo. The logo depicts an oval with a diamond-like three-dimensional triangle in the center. Chery says the three sides of the triangle stand for the company’s core values: development, quality, and technology.
