Published on February 20, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

Today we have a heavily tuned Beijing-Jeep Cherokee, the 2002 model. The owner got himself a big horn on the bonnet, to be heard in Beijing’s traffic jams. To be seen het got six big foglights. To scare he got a freaky mask up front. Its not a traditional Chinese mask, loox native Americanish.
Extreme Tuning: Chery QQ
Published on February 14, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

One driver wanted more QQ. He added a load of plastic and some very kinky eyelids over the headights. Tuning small cars like this one used to be a typical Japanese thing but creations like this are more and more common on Beijing’s street. I saw this one at a tuning show, it was not one of the vehicles on display, it was on the parking lot…
Mitsubishi Outlander Tuned to the Max
Published on February 13, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

A extremely tuned Mitsubishi Outlander seen parked on a street in northern Beijing. One Outlander driver clearly thought his car too boring. I especially like the triangular fake air intake in the front wing. Approved! The old Mitsubishi Outlander was made in China by the Beijing-Mitsubishi joint venture, that jv is now dead, the new Outlander is imported.
Spotted in China: Maybach 62
Published on February 10, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

Another Maybach in my street, one might think I live in a good neighborhood. The man in the grey shirt on the right of pic was the driver. We smoked a cigarette and talked cars. I asked him why his boss hadn’t bought a Rolls Royce which was more beautiful. I expected an answer like: ‘the Maybach is much better!’ Instead the driver said that his boss indeed thought the Roller a more beautifull car but that he bought the Maybach anyway because it was more expensive. All Rolls needs to to is ask more money for their cars!
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Police Edition from China
Published on February 8, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

A Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG seen trough the window from my Beijing-Jeep. The lucky owner must be a great fan of the American police, even including the 911 emergency number which for sure doesn’t work in China. Handwriting reads: ‘to punish and enslave’…

A very beatifull Hongqi CA7180A2EL1 parked on a lot near the old Beijing International Exhibiton Center. The Hongqi (Red Flag) CA7180 is based on the Audi 100 from the FAW-VW joint venture. The CA7180A2EL1 in turn is based on the CA7180A2E and stretched in the middle by 32 centimeter.
Spotted in China: Lamborghini Murcielago SV
Published on February 5, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

My girlfriend thought there was something wrong with her Chang’an-Suzuki Swift’s engine, so loud was the noise of this black Lamborghini LP670-4 Super Veloce standing right in front of us at a traffic light in Beijing.
Spotted in China: Moskvitch Aleko 2141S
Published on January 9, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

The Moskvitch Aleko 2141S was made between 1986 and 2000 by the Moskvitch Stock Company in Moscow, Russia. From the late 1980′s the car was exported as ‘Aleko 2141S’ to mostly Eastern European countries. Some however, ended up in China. I found this not too good looking example near a small car repair shop in Beijing.
Volkswagen Santana convertible from China
Published on January 9, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

A pleasant surprise in the mailbox this morning. Two pics of a nicely customed Shanghai-Volkswagen Santana. The owner took the roof away to get more sunshine. There is in fact no roof at all so it can only be used in good weather. On the other hand, those old Santana’s will go trough almost anything.
Spotted in China: Hongqi CA7200E3L
Published on December 28, 2010 by Tycho de Feyter

The FAW-Hongqi CA7200E3L is based on the Audi 100 and was powered by a Nissan 2.0 V6. The CA7200E3-series were made from 1998 until 2002. The ‘L’ in the name means it is stretched, job done by Hongqi itself, and stretched in a rather unusual way…
