Audi Q7 Police Car from China

March 13, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

A policecar can never be big enough. Police, or rather a fortunate boss, got himself a 1.65 million rmb Audi Q7 4.2. Chinese, still not the richest in the world, criticize the government, but not too loud of course, for spending their tax money in such a way. This particulair car was seen by spotmen 3 times, they all posted their picture on the web to show their ‘anger’. At the same time they love the car and indeed, a fine piece of machinery is it.

Spy Shots: new Shanghai-GM Buick GL8 out Testing

March 12, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

Gee de wee, they almost got me there. Nein, this isn’t the new Audi A6. Instead it is the new Shanghai GM Buick GL8, Buick GL8 from now. The Buick GL8 is not a very popular vehicle anymore. It did well for taxi companies and government but the current one is just too old. It never did much in private sales and that’s where the big money is today. So the new one comes with a much hipper lines and Buick’s new big front.

March 12, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

Luxgen is a brandname from Taiwanese automaker Yulon. The name ‘Luxgen” comes from  ‘Luxury’ and ‘Genius’. Yulon teamed up with Chinese Dongfeng Motors to build Yulons for the Chinese market, their name became so ‘Dongfeng-Luxgen’. First two cars were to be an MPV, which has launched in Taiwan but not in China, and this SUV which has launched nowhere yet. March 12, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

Chery brought the M14 as a prototype to the Shanghai Auto Show in 2005. Today, in 2010, it is still not on the market. But it ain’t death eiter, it’s been spotted testing several times over the years and now again. The M14 was to be China’s first hardtop convertible but they lost that title to the BYD S8. Second than might be, the car however doesn’t look much ready for Beijing Auto in April.

Update: some sources say the M14 will be renamed A6CC, the A6CC being another Chery conceptcar but without a folding roof. Not sure…

Spotted in China: Jaguar XJS

March 11, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

A for China very rare machine was seen in a shopping street in Nanchang in Jiangxi Province. It is a beautifull example of one of England finest, the Jaguar XJS convertible. Jaguar never officially sold the XJS in China and the import of second had cars from abroad is forbidden. There are only two ways how the happy owner got his dream in land. He might have bought it from a diplomat but that was forbidden as well until this very year 2010. Unlikely indeed.

“China’s auto sales top 2.9m units in first two months”

March 11, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

China Daily reports that auto sales over Januari and Februari are up 84 percent compared to the same months in 2009. One reason for this incredible growth are govermen t incentives, mostly for cars with an engine capacity under 1.3 litre and even more for under 1.0. And the economy is growing as a whole so people who waited last year are in today. The annual spring festival did help a bit bit not as much as China Daily seems to think. The annual festival is, ya’kna’, annual. China Daily talks:

China’s auto sales maintained steady growth in the first two months of 2010, buoyed by the nation’s car purchase incentives and strong demand brought by the week-long Spring Festival holidays.
