And that good day I went for a visit to a BAW shop near my home. They sell the BAW BJ212 and the Zhanqi series of 4×4 vehicles. The shop is located in the Dongba area, just outside the east section of the Fifth Ring Road in Beijing. When I was there they had about fifteen vehicles around. On the first photo two brand new BJ212’s ready for delivery.

A vey well maintained Beijing Automobile Works 212 parked on a street in Beijing. Beijing Automobile Works, better known as BAW, is a brand from Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation, or BAIC. Another brand from BAIC is Beijing Auto. BAW makes off roaders and SUV’s such as the 007, B40 and B70. Beijing Auto makes passenger cars such as the BC301 and in the future the Saab-based T60.
BAIC also has joint ventures with Mercedes-Benz (Beijing-Benz) and Hyundai (Beijing-Hyundai). BAIC used to have a joint venture with AMC, later Chrysler. That joint venture made the Cherokee and for a short while the 300C and Sebring. The Cherokee is still in production, now as BAW Qishi S12. Time to get back to the 212!

Today we have a very nicely done 1:43 model of the Beijing 212. This military version is called T75 -105. ‘T75’ is an army number, ‘105’ stands for the size of the gun, 105mm is it. The model did me 35 rmb in a local supermarket in my street. The white star is not Chinese, I guess the toymaker looked at America for that one.
