The facelifted Roewe 550 debuted on the Shanghai Auto Show in near-total darkness. What is, Roewe trying to hide? The facelift has done well to the old 550, making sure it can continue at least another two years. Biggest changes are up front with a new grille, headlights and bumper.

This must have been a very painful birth. We saw the very first spy shots of the facelifted Roewe 550 in… November 2011. Since then we have seen various prototypes testing around, including a completely-ready example in the Shanghai subway.
But no matter how many test cars we saw, the facelifted Roewe 550 never made it to the Chinese car market yet. The latest we saw were the patent drawings which appeared in January of this very year. Chinese media now report the facelifted Roewe 550 will finally debut on the Shanghai Auto Show that starts next week. Hurray.

Somebody must have made a mistake at Roewe because the facelifted 550 hasn’t officially debuted yet. The new 550 is expected to be launched on the China car market in September but it so arrived a bit too early. We don’t mind…

New spy shots of the Roewe 550 plug-in hybrid, it has been in development for some two years but will finally hit the Chinese car market late this year. The car on pics is a test mule based around the facelifted 550 which will be launched in September. On earlier spy shots we saw a 550 hybrid based around the current car, indicating development took longer than expected.

New spy shots from the Roewe 550 Hybrid testing in China. Roewe showed a 550 Hybrid at the Shanghai Auto Show in April last year. By the time they said it would be listed on the Chinese car market in early 2012. Chinese media now report that 550 Hybrid will indeed be listed soon after the Beijing Auto Show in April. The 550 on the pics however is the old 550 and not the facelifted 550 that will also debut in Beijing.
