Spotted in China: Peugeot 406 Coupe

Here we have a perfect Peugeot 406 Coupe, seen on the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. The Peugeot 406 was made from 1994 until 2004, the Coupe from 1996 until 2003. The 407-series was never exported to China so how this great example ended up in the Capital is a mystery.

Volkswagen Jetta is a Sound System in China

August 25, 2012 by W.E. Ning

Chacka Chacka, boenka boenka. A full-fat sound & video system hidden in the trunk of a FAW-Volkswagen Jetta in China, seen at the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. And it was loud!!! This curious car reminds us of an other old-timer (oh!) that refuses to die. Time however for the MK2 Volkswagen Jetta seems finally up, the new Jetta is expected to arrive late next week at the Chengdu Auto Show. Well, you’d better go out with a bang and this 2002 Jetta CIF did just that!

Chevrolet Cruze in matte-black and with Audi-like head lights in China

August 22, 2012 by Tycho de Feijter

Chevrolet Cruze in matte-black and with Audi-like head lights in China

A very smooth matte-black Chevrolet Cruze seen at the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. The cool Cruze is further cooled up by Audi-like head lights, a first on a Chevy, a body kit with led-lights in the bumper, lowered supension, huge 20inch tires and shiny alloys. A fine combination indeed, almost as good as the M Cruze we saw earlier.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG in matte-purple in China

Here we have a very matte-purple Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, seen on a parking lot near the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. The C63 is further sexed up by kinda pink-ish racing stripes, a black grille and very coolio license plates. A very fine idea! The C63 AMG is powered by a monster 6.2 liter V8 that poops out 460hp and 600nm.

Spotted in China: Nissan Laurel Altima

August 18, 2012 by Tycho de Feijter

Spotted in China: Nissan Laurel Altima

Here we have a very strange and very interesting vehicle. This is a Nissan Laurel Altima, based on the A31 Nissan Cefiro sedan and made from 1988 until 1994. As far as I can find out the name ‘Laurel Altima’ was only used for export to Latin America. The A31 Cefiro in turn shared most of its parts with the sixth generation Nissan Laurel that was made from 1989 until 1993. How the Laurel Altima turned up in China is a bit misty, this black example is certainly now the only one, I have seen many more over the years. I met this particular example on a parking lot near the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing, but even there it was not the only one…

Toyota Land Cruiser J70 is Pimped in China

August 17, 2012 by W.E. Ning

Toyota Land Cruiser J70 is Pimped in China

This is a very pimped Toyota Land Cruiser J70 seen on the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. Production of the J70 started in 1984 and continues until today, making it one of the longest running ‘single cars’ (unlike for example the Toyota Corolla which has been redesigned a zillion times) in the world. The J70 Land Cruiser isn’t officially exported to China so this great pimpo likely came to Beijing via the gray market, it is the first J70 I ever met in China.

Orange Brilliance BS4 confuses me outta Wheels in China

Dig. Here we have a very coolio Brilliance BS4 painted in orange, seen very near to the actual exhibition hall of the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. That day I was there, with reader Kael, and we walked around the vehicle, checking the orange and such and such. Now, almost a week later I check my pics and see something very confusing. Note green alloys…

Volkswagen Golf Variant is a lowrider in China

August 17, 2012 by Tycho de Feijter

Volkswagen Golf Variant is a lowrider in China

Another beauty from the parking lot at the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing, this is a Volkswagen Golf Variant with much lowered suspension, roof rails, racy low profile tires and green alloys. Wadda combination! The Golf Variant is a rare thing to see in China, it is imported and was only launched on the China car market in September last year, a modified Variant is even more rare, this is actually the first one I’ve seen, but it is a good start.

Ford Focus is lime-green in China

August 16, 2012 by Tycho de Feijter

A very fine lime-green last-gen Ford Focus in China, seen on the parking lot near the Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. Yezzz, the parking lots are often much better than the actual show! This good green Ford is further sexed up by a body kit, a matte-black roof, matte-black racing stripes,  matte-black mirrors and matte-blacked-out alloys. How fine!, more at the back:

Nissan 240SX is Pimped in China

August 15, 2012 by Tycho de Feijter

Nissan 240SX is Pimped in China

Here we have a very rare and very customized Nissan 240SX, seen on the  Auto Tuning Car Show in Beijing. The 240SX is sexed up with a gigantic body kit, matte-white paint, big racy tires and blacked-out alloys. The second generation C14 Nissan 240SX was only made from 1995 until 1998 and never officially exported to China, only a very few made it to Chinese grounds via the gray market, mostly via the US, and this brilliant white car must be one of those.
