This might look, at least to the untrained eye, as a Nissan GT-R racemachine. But it is not. Instead, this is a Brilliance Coupe with a very fat body kit and painted in some sorta purple. Great effort!

A beautiful black Brilliance Coupe, seen parked on da streets in Shanghai. The Brilliance Coupe (aka BS3, BC3, Kouper, M3) was only the second sportmachine developed in China after the brilliant Geely Meirenbao. Design was done by the great Italian master Pininfarina and Porsche engineering tweaked the chassis. Sadly the Coupe never became a great success because Chinese car buyers just didn’t see the point of paying extra money for a less practical car. This attitude is changing slowly so maybe Brilliance can give it another shot with a new car.

This is a slightly customized Brilliance BS3 Coupe posing as a Porsche. One can wonder why, a Brilliance BS3 is likely more rare than a Porsche and can be made very fast. The Brilliance Coupe arrived in 2007, powered by a 1.8 turbo with 170hp and 235nm, good for a 220km/h top speed.

When the Brilliance Coupe was launched back in 2007 it was only the second homegrown Chinese coupe on the market, after the Geely Meirenbao. I liked the Brilliance a lot, it looked great and it came cheap. Unfortunately not many others liked it so almost nobody bought one and neither did I.
There are however some people who really, really, love the Brilliance Coupe. Some love it so much that they change the standard 4-cylinder for a Mitsubishi 2.5 Twin Turbo V6, like the men from tuning company DreamPower BJ.

A rare Brilliance BS3 Coupe on a street near my home in Beijing. The Coupe (Kubao in Chinese) arrived in September 2007. Sales were very slow and Brilliance so didn’t bother to update the car, the 2011 model loox exactly the same. Power comes from a hot 1.8 turbo with 170hp and 235nm, good for a 220km/h top speed.
