The Buick Encore compact SUV debuted yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show. It might be a bit on the small side for America but it will do fine in China where it will be made by the Shanghai-GM joint venture, production will start in about 3 months.

Another one bites the Bling. Here we have a very well blinged Buick Regal, made in China by the Shanghai-GM joint venture. The wrap is perfectly smooth all over the car and shiny even at night. The car resides somewhere in Beijing and the proud owner s a member of the Beijing Buick Regal club. Yez, in China they have Regal-clubs.

The Buick Encore SUV will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next year. There will be an Opel-branded version for Europe as well. The Encore will also be made in China, by the Shanghai-GM joint venture. GM is busy testing the vehicle on Chinese roads which likely means its China-debut will be at the April 2012 Beijing Auto Show.

GM has applied for patent in China for the sporty Opel Astra GTC coupe. When it comes to China however it will be branded as Buick Excelle GTC, hot in the footsteps of the Buick Regal GS (Opel Insignia GS) that debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show last month.

A lot of buzz in the Chinese press on this one because it is the very first performance orientated car to be made in China, the Regal GS is made by the Shanghai-GM joint venture. The engine however comes in a crate straight from Germany where the Buick Regal was born as the Opel Insignia.

Chinese automotive website 163.com got a source in the Shanghai-GM joint venture. The source said Buick is working on a new compact SUV for the Chinese market. It will be based on the Theta platform that also underpins the Saturn Vue, Opel Antera and Chevrolet Captiva. Read more »
