Spotted in China: S120 Toyota Crown

Here we have a very rare S120 seventh generation Toyota Crown, seen in the great city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. The S120 Toyota Crown was made from 1983 until 1987. It was never exported to China but some cars arrived via diplomatic channels, the gray market, or smuggling.

A perfect S140 Toyota Crown Super Saloon, seen on a car parts market in Beijing. The 8th generation Toyota Crown was made from 1987 until 1997, the facelifted S140 was produced from 1991 until 1997. The 8th gen Crown was never officially exported to China but the Chinese government bought a few thousand cars in the late 1990′s for official use. The government also bought a similar number of the 7th generation Toyota Crown. The current 13th gen Toyota Crown is made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture, and to make this overview complete; we once met a very rare sixth generation Toyota Crown up north in Yanji.
Facelifted Toyota Crown hits the China auto market

The facelifted Toyota Crown has been launched at the China auto market, price starts at 319.800 yuan and end at 519.800 yuan. The Crown is available with a 2.5 liter V6 or a 3.0 liter V6, the 4.3 V8 is no longer available for the Chinese market.

These are the very first pictures of the facelifted Toyota Crown, it will be launched on the Chinese auto market later this month. The facelift included a new grill, new head lights, new bumpers, new tail lights and an updated interior.

Here we have a very hot ‘n black sixth generation Toyota Crown, seen by reader Steve in the great city of Yanji in Jilin Province, thank you very much for the pics! Jilin Province is up in the northeast, close to Russia, North Korea and Japan. The area was famous for smuggling in the 1960′s and 1970′s when consumer good were very hard to get in China. All sorta pretty, ranging from CD-players to cars, came in from Japan via Russia.

Another fine old Japanese limousine, seen on a parking lot here in the capital Beijing. This is a 7th generation Toyota Crown, made from 1983 to 1987. Brown car on pics is a very basic version of the otherwise luxurious Toyota, likely an early 1983 or 1984 model. The Toyota Crown was never officially exported to China but we do know the Chinese government bought a few batches of 1000 cars each in the 1980′s for use by government officials.

New spy shots from the facelifted Toyota Crown, a car that sells so poorly one could easily forget about it completely. Toyota wants the facelifted Crown to do better and is therefore aiming at the young. Toyota will launch a special China-only Crown Sport to attract new buyers. At the same time however Toyota is dropping the mighty 4.3 V8, which might just be the most attractive engine for those young horse-power hungry maniacs.

The facelifted Toyota Crown was expected to debut at last month’s Beijing Auto Show but it did not appear. Chinese media now report the updated Crown will be launched on the China car market in June. The Crown is made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. Facelift includes a new grill with more chrome, new light units, new bumpers and an updated interior.

The Toyota Crown is made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. The big sedan will soon receive a small facelift, the new car is likely to be listed in summer. Engine at launch will be the 2.5 V6 but there are rumors going on about a more powerful ‘sport’ version.
