China Car History: The Fifth Prototype Of The Hongqi CA774

Today in China Car History the fifth prototype of the Hongqi CA774, once intended as the successor of the famous Hongqi CA770 state limousine. Six prototypes were made from 1972 until 1979 but the CA774 sadly never saw production.

At least four prototypes are still around. One stands in the Hongqi Museum in Changchun, another one in the museum’s warehouse, one stands abandoned on a parking lot on the Tsinghua University in Beijing, and one used to be at the Dalian Classic Car Museum and stands now at the Beijing Classic Car Museum.

And that is the car we are looking at today, seen above in very good shape during my visit to Dalian in 2010.

The Shanghai SH1020SP Pickup Truck At The Former Dalian Classic Car Museum

The once brilliant Dalian Classic Car Museum has been closed. The private owner is in prison for killing his brother and won’t get out anymore. The collection has been removed from the museum’s buildings and the cars are being sold off. It seems very unlikely the collection will ever come together again. Time thus for a look-back at how things once were when all was good and happy. Today we look at the beautiful Shanghai SH1020 SP, a double-cab pickup truck based on the Shanghai SH7221 sedan.

The Americans at the former Dalian Classic Car Museum in China

The brilliant Dalian Classic Car Museum has been closed. The private owner is in prison for killing his brother and won’t get out anymore. The collection has been removed from the museum’s buildings and the cars are being sold off. Some are ending up in other museums and some with other collectors.

It seems very unlikely the collection will ever come together again. Time thus for a look-back at how things once were when all was good and happy. Today we look at the Americans and they were with a lot. Starting off immediately with a massive white 1990 Mack CH613 tractor truck powered by a 427hp diesel engine. In good shape with the period black stripe.

Trucks are a rare thing in Chinese car museums, but Dalian had a triple:

China Car History: the Beijing-Jeep 2002 utility vehicle prototype

December 17, 2015 by Tycho de Feijter

bj-pajero-1

A very special car today in China Car History. This is the one and only Beijing-Jeep 2002, seen in the magnificent and now sadly closed Dalian Classic Car Museum in the great city of Dalian in Liaoning Province.

The Beijing-Jeep 2002 was a prototype for the successor of the famous Beijing Auto Works 212, a 4×4 utility vehicle used by the Chinese armed forces, it was built in 2002, hence the name. The competition was a bit muddy as all the entrants came from various parts of the Beijing Auto empire!

China Car History: the V8 powered Hongqi CA630 VIP minibus

Today in China Car History the massively impressive Hongqi CA630, a VIP minibus from China powered by a big V8 petrol engine. The CA630 was born in the great year of 1980 and lived on until 1987. The bus features a heavily chromed grille flanked by two headlights on each side. The white blue example on the first photo dates from 1982. I found her in near perfect condition in the Dalian Classic Car Museum.

The ZAZ 968M at the Dalian Classic Car Museum

A very beige ZAZ 968M sedan, Spotted in China at the Dalian Classic Car Museum in the great city of Dalian in Liaoning Province. The vehicle was in a rather poor condition. Parked out in the open, clearly neglected, dirty, and rust has started to attack. Fortunately it was completely original, with period wheel covers and the weird…
