The new BYD-DaimlerDenza EV has been launched on the Shanghai car market in China. Price starts at 369.000 yuan and ends at 399.000 yuan ($60.000 – 65.000), and that includes all green-car subsidies but excludes the free license plate for electric cars which is worth about 90.000 yuan. Shanghai is currently the only city in China where the Denza is available. Shenzhen will follow later this month and Beijing will be served in November. The rest of the country will have to wait until 2015.
Last week I was in Shenzhen where I was invited for a test drive in the brand new Denza EV. I was a passenger in this ‘Denza Blue’ example driven by one of the factory’s development-test drivers who knew the vehicle inside and out. We drove on steep and challenging roads through the hills in the far eastern part of the city.
The long awaited production version of the BYD-DaimlerDenza EV debuted today on the Beijing Auto Show, looking sweet in shiny baby blue and fronted with a hugely impressive shiny grille. It was very busy at the booth with hundreds of enthusiastic car fans sticking their cameras far under the platform to check out each detail.
