Volkswagen Golf Cabrio China

The summer is coming up steam, at least here in Beijing, so Volkswagen is perfectly in time launching the new Volkswagen Golf Cabrio on the Chinese car market. The market for convertibles is still small, thanks to air-pollution, noise and traffic jams, but it is growing among the young ‘n cool who don’t want the same boring sedan as their parents have.

Volkswagen had applied for patent for the Chinese market on the new Golf Cabrio. Volkswagen already sells the Eos in China. The Eos is imported and so will the Golf Cabrio. There isn’t enough demand for convertibles yet to justify local production. The Golf Cabrio will likely be listed near next summer. Via: 163.com.

Volkswagen invasion in China

Published on June 14, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

Volkswagen sells more cars in China than anyone else but the Germans believe they can sell many more. And indeed, I guess they can. Volkswagen will launch five (5) new cars on the Chinese market from July to August. All are imported: Golf Cross, Golf Plus, Golf R, Golf Variant and Scirocco R. Sales will be small compared to hot-sellers as the Lavida and New Bora so VW will not make the new cars locally. The Golf hatchback and Scirocco are already imported into China but the ‘R’ versions are new. Via: 163.com.

Spy Shot: Volkswagen Golf R testing in China

Published on March 10, 2011 by Tycho de Feyter

The Golf R was seen testing in China. It will make its Chinese debut on the Shanghai Auto Show in April and race to the market soon thereafter. It will be an import, the ‘import’-stamp means VW can ask much more money for it. Funny example of that one: the Magotan, called Passat in Eruope.

FAW-VW makes the Magotan in China. But!, VW also imports the Magotan directly from the German factory. So they sell a locally made Magotan and an imported Magotan right next to eachother at the very same time. The imported car costs at least 4000 euro more, but when it comes to the topspec versions the Chinese buyers actually prefer the imported car. Funny market it is.

The Golf R comes with 4-wheel drive and a hot 4-cilinder engine with 270hp and 258nm.
