Honda cuts 2011 China car sales target by 13%

Honda Motor Co said on Wednesday it was cutting its 2011 car sales target for China by 13 percent as Japan’s earthquake and tsunami in March disrupted its supply chain and forced production cutbacks, Reuters reported.
Honda lowered its sales target for China to 638,000 cars, down from its initial target of 731,500, and 2 percent lower than its 2010 sales, the report said.

The Honda CR-Z has not been received very well around the world. Nobody in China buys hybrids, because they are too expensive. The Chinese market for small sportscars is basically non-existent. Still, Honda brings the CR-Z hybrid sportything to China, as an import. It will be listed in the first half of this 2011. Price yet unknown. Good luck Honda…
Acura MDX arrives in China

Honda brings the Acura MDX to China. It is imported and comes with a huge price: from 900.000 to 940.000 yuan. Ouch!, for a Honda. The MDX will compete with the Benz M, BMW X5/X6, Audi Q7 and the Range Rovers. One engine: 3.7 V6 with 309hp and 370nm.
The expensive-suv segment is still booming in China so Honda might sell some. But all the competition has V8′s on offer and rich Chinese customers all like the biggest engine they can get. Honda, for some unknown reasons, simply refuses to make a V8. No doubt they can do it, they just don’t want. That might be fine for the US today but it ain’t for China.
Honda to make CR-Z and Insight Hybrids in China

Honda has decided to make to CR-Z and Insight hybrids in China, likely with joint venture partner Guangzhou Auto. To keep costs low Honda wants to source the expensive batteries locally instead of importing them from Japan. Honda is currently looking for a Chinese battery-supplier. Guess they thought about BYD… It is so not exactly sure when production will start, but Honda thinks 2012 must be possible.
