A gigantic Hongqi L9 state limousine, seen being transported on a flatbed truck somewhere north of the capital Beijing. The Hongqi L9 is a government-only limousine, unlike the smaller Hongqi L5 that will hit the China car market next year. The Hongqi L9 debuted as the Hongqi CA7600L on the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, and at least ten of these majestic vehicles are used by the Chinese government today.

This mighty Hongqi CA7600L Parade Car is a piece of Chinese history. It is exactly this car, with numberplate 京V•02009, that was used by President Hu Jintao during the 1 October 2009 military parade in Beijing. Since 2009 this car has been all around China where it stood at several exhibitions and was also used for dealer events. Now it seems finally back home, on display right in the middle of the FAW factory in Changchun. FAW, First Auto Works, is the owner of the Hongqi brand. Read more »

FAW, owner of the Hongqi-brand, is seriously considering to bring the massive CA7600L to the market. If all goed to plan the limosine will keep the 5.985 litre 300kw V12 but will lose all armor. The CA7600L was originally meant to be made as a small series for government use only, but the car caused such a stir on the Beijing Auto Show that FAW decided some form of mass production might make sense. Debut date yet unknown but we do know the price: it will cost around 4 million yuan, that is 589.000 US dollar.

A very nice model of the now famous Hongqi CA7600L. Scale is 1:43, diecast, and I bought is for only 35rmb in a toy store near my home. For such a small sum the car is very wel detailled and everything fits together fine. A minor drawback are the flagpoles, mirrors and microphones. Cheap toys like this don’t come in boxes so parts that are vunarable are usually made of flexible rubber. Fine for sure but I couldn’t get the flagpoles to rise up again.

The monster Hongqi CA7600L, also known as Hongqi L9, is powered by a 6.0 liter V12 with 408hp and 550nm. Size: 6395mmX2008mmX1720, wheelbase is 3800mm. It won’t go in full production but will be available on special order for around five million rmb, that is 500.000 euros. Not cheap but the machine is bullet proof and comes with two flag poles as standard.

FAW’s luxury brand Honqi (Red Flag) will display the impressive CA7600J on the Beijing Auto Show. The car became famous when it showed up at the 1-Oktober military parade in Beijing last year. The bullet-proof machine is 6 meters long and is powered by a 300kw V12.
