Back in July I went to the Hongqi Factory Museum in Changchun, a beautiful place with beautiful cars. See Part 1 with intro here and Part 2 here. The museum usually has 16-20 cars in display. Only six are permanently displayed and the other cars rotate. Today we take a look at what I didn’t see.
Hongqi, or Red Flag, is China’s oldest and most famous car brand. It is owned by First Auto Works, or FAW. Hongqi was founded in 1958. Today the brand makes two production cars: the Hongqi L5 and the Hongqi H7.
Starting off hot with a car called the CA7460:

Time now for Part 2 of my visit to the Hongqi Museum in the great city of Changchun in Jilin Province in China. Part 1 plus introduction here. Starting immediately with the beautiful Hongqi CA630 VIP bus, manufactured from 1980 until 1987. Racy decals are perfectly 80’s!

A very big and very black Hongqi Qijian CA7460 L2 limousine dressed up for a wedding, seen here in the capital Beijing. The Hongqi (Red Flag) Qijian (Flagship) CA 7460 L2 was a stretched version of the Hongqi Qijian CA7460, which was based on the 3th generation Lincoln Town Car.

Here we have an extremely rare Hongqi Qijian CA 7460 L1 seen in front of a hotel in the great city of Guiyang in Guizhou Province. The vehicle was on the move but our man Peter Xie managed to snap a few shots, thanks! The Hongqi (Red Flag) Qijian (Flagship) CA 7460 L1 was a stretched version of the Hongqi Qijian CA7460, which was based on the 3th generation Lincoln Town Car.

Here we have a very fine and very black Hongqi CA7460, seen in Beijing by reader Kael, thank you for the pics! The Hongqi (Red Flag) CA7460 was based on the third generation Lincoln Town Car and assembled in China by First Auto Works, the owner of the Hongqi brand. The CA7460 was made from 1998 until 2005 and was primarily meant for government use, some examples however ended up in private hands.

Hongqi, or Red Flag, is China’s most famous automotive brand. Owner of the Hongqi-brand is First Auto Works, or FAW. Hongqi always was, and sometimes still is, the car for the country’s leaders – communist party bosses and the car for the very influential. Not the car for the very rich mind!, the Hongqi was strictly government business. Hongqi’s most famous cars are the CA770-series and the Audi-based limousines and parade cars.
There is however another less well known chapter in Hongqi’s history; a tie up with good old Lincoln from the USA in the 1990’s and early 00’s. This article will show what cars came out of this interesting marriage. On first pic the first Hongqi CA7460 rolling of the line in the factory in Changchun, Jilin province. It was November 10, 1998.
