Spotted in China: first generation Lada Niva 1600

A very rare Lada Niva 1600, Spotted in China on a car market in Beijing by Reader & Serial Spotter Navigator 84, thank you for the pictures! The good Lada is in a very good shape. Paint looks fresh, chrome mostly shiny, and all parts appears to be in place. Large tires and alloys are not original but are probably period.

A very sad Lada Niva, seen by reader Kael in Beijing, thank you for the pictures. The good old Niva is clearly very abandoned. Tires are flat, some windows are gone, and it is very dirty all over. But this is also a very interesting Niva because it is sexed up with a very strange and very plastic body-kit, complete with a new grill. The owner must have been a sporty man…

Here we have a fine Lada Samara sedan, seen by reader Kael in Beijing, thank you for the pictures! Production of the Samara started at 1984 and continues until today. This white car on pics is a Samara 21099 which was made from 1987 until 2004. Russia exported various Lada’s to China in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. When China’s economy started to boom nobody wanted the poor old fashioned Lada’s anymore, car on pic is therefore likely an early car.

A rusty Lada Niva seen near a fish pond in Beijing. The poor car looked unhealthy and clearly hadn’t seen the road for ages. On top of that it had a serious identity crisis, according to stickers and badges it was a Lada, a Mitsubishi and a Jeep.
