A very dusty and very dirty Lexus ES300 sedan, Spotted in China in the booming Dongba area in the far-far eastern suburbs of east Beijing. The vehicle sure needs a good clean-up but looked otherwise all right. The second generation ‘XV10’ Lexus ES300 was manufactured from 1991 until 1996 with a small facelift in 1994, this is a pre-facelift example.

A brilliantly baby blue Lexus LF-A has popped up at a Lexus dealer in Beijing. It is a second hand with only a few thousand on the teller, priced at a manic 6.99 million yuan or 1.14 million USD. Prices are apparently on the rice, the LFA did only 5.98 million yuan when new.

A very clean and very red Lexus LS400 sedan, seen on a street in central Beijing, not far from the place where I earlier met a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 190E. The superb sedan looked perfect in red, showing the underestimated brilliance of a 25 years old design. The great great vehicle is further sexed up by a body kit, with especially impressive side skirts, shiny 5-spoke alloys and racy low profile tires.

Here we have a sleek second generation Lexus ES300, seen on a parking lot near the 3th Ring in Beijing. The second generation ‘XV10’ Lexus ES300 was made from 1991 until 1996 and it was never exported to China. The first generation ES300 debuted in 1989 and was at the time only the second car in the Lexus line-up next to the LS400. Parked next to the Lexus a clean & green BMW E34 525i, more on that beauty in a later post.

Many BYD cars are copies of Toyota. The BYD S6 is a copy of the last-hen Lexus RX350. Chinese car buyers know that and act accordingly. One S6 buyer however was confused and slapped Scion-badges on his BYD. There was another one up front but I didn’t get a good shot. Well, it might fool the folks back home in the countryside, if they know what a Scion is… Better use Lexus next time!

A very sleek first generation Lexus LS400, seen near the Lido hotel in Beijing. The super-silent Japanese sedan is painted in a relatively rare sliver-white color. Much better than black which basically was the standard color for the LS400. Read more »

A very fine Lexus LS400 police car, seen on the Air Show China in the great city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. The vehicle was used to escort VIP limousines around town. Such ‘limousines’ are usually heavily modified Toyota Coasters which go faster than airplanes.
