“I love made in China”, seen on an old Lifan 520 near the 5th Ring Road in Beijing. The sticker refers to the island row with Japan, where many angry Chinese suddenly started buying ‘home-grown’ brands instead of Japanese. Many ordinary Chinese citizens are still very angry about it all, at a moment when high-politics are getting ready to reduce tensions, so there probably won’t be a war.

We now move to great country of Algeria for a special episode of our ‘Extreme Tuning from China’ series. This indeed is an Algerian Lifan 520 sedan modified in a rather fine and stealthy way. We see an aero-kit, a fake air-intake on the bonnet, new alloys, new tires and very cool blacked-out headlights.

The new Lifan 520 debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The 520 was kinda tucked away in a small corner of the stand, like Lifan was trying to hide it, which they should, because this 520 is a shameless copy of the Toyota Vios. This ain’t no good development for Lifan! And it will get even worse…

The new Lifan 520 will debut tomorrow at the Guangzhou Auto Show. We think that takes too long, so here are the very first pics of Lifan’s Toyota Vios-clone arriving at the exhibition hall.

These are the very first live-pictures of the new Lifan 520 that will debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month. The Chinese press ain’t sweet on the 520, they say it is a Toyota Vios-clone, check out this comparison. The final result however doesn’t look that bad. Lifan actually bothered to make a different front and back on the 520 and that at least is a kinda good thing. Lifan however won’t stop here, their new 620 is a clone from the Toyota Corolla and there can me no mistakes about that one…

Lifan is a small Chinese car company that makes no-nonsense and affordable vehicles. Their design was never really pretty but at least original, with one notable exception, that is. The first renderings of the new 520 however show that Lifan is now really in the cloning game, target is the Toyota Vios, made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture.

The current Lifan 520 has been on the market since 2006 and hardly anybody bought one. That might change with the new car which according to these first two renderings loox much better. It will come as a concept to the Shanghai Auto Show and hit the market in late 2012 or early 2013, still a long way indeed.
