The MG3 Xross is another new cross-vehicle at the Chengdu Auto Show and again with something funny in the name. Until now we always assumed it would be called ‘XCross’ but instead it is ‘Xross’, the C has gone missing. New name kinda weird, would sound like ksross. MG probably thinks Xross is very cool. Well, the vehicle itself loox cool indeed with huge pieces of grey plastic, black plastic, in bright orange and a massive roof rack to transport the cow you killed while camping in the wild.

Power comes from a 1.5 with 88hp and 117nm. Price is 91.700 yuan for the manual and 103.700 yuan for the automatic. The MG3 Xross, weird name, is listed as of today.

Seen from the rear all those grey stuff seems to make the design a bit messy, the eyes don’t know where to go, which line to follow, where to dare next! Maybe that indeed is the feeling MG wants us to have when we Xross over the mountain, not just to the mountain, but to the other side…

The very first MG3 hatchback I’ve seen in the wild. It was parked near one of my favorite restaurants in Beijing not far from the CarNewsChina head office skyscrapers. The 3 loox much bigger in the flesh than on pictures, more Golf-size than Polo.

Quality-wise all seemed very fine. Dual-tone paint a nice touch. Interior classy and modern. The MG3 debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show in December 2010 and was listed in March. However, I haven’t seen any on the road yet. The car on pics was wearing some dealer-promotional plates so I guess its just being used for test drives.

Price starts at 69.700 yuan and ends at 103.700 yuan. Engines: 1.3 with 88hp and 117nm and a 1.5 with 109hp and 139nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed “e-Shift” automatic. MG has plans to bring the 3 to old England as well. It will be assembled in Longbridge alongside the MG6.

Engines are the same as in the standard MG3: 1.3 with 92hp and a 1.5 with 108hp mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic. No 4×4 for up in the mountains, this XCross is a city-egg.

MG celebrated the listing with a party in Shanghai. The MG3 is cool and urban so the company hired a bunch of cool urban people to dance around three 3′s on a podium. Very cool indeed, fortunately there were some beautifull women as well:

MG will fianlly bring the long awaited MG3 to the Chinese autro market, the compact hatchback will be listed on March 26. Price starts around 70.000 yuan and ends around 100.000 yuan. Engines: 1.3 with 68kw and a 1.5 with 80kw. MG will focus mareking on young city folks, 18 to 28 years, with a campain build around the slogan ‘Zero Limits’. Sounds very cool indeed and it is harking back to the orginal MG3 concept which was called MG Zero.

Earlier we saw the patent-drawings and now we got the first real pic from the upcoming MG3 Cross. It will stand a little higher on its feet, get more plastic around the bumpers, some roofrails and job done. Engines will be the same, no 4×4, its all fashion but it will sell. Expected to hit the market in the second half of this year.

MG just launched the MG3 at the Guangzhou Auto Show but a crossover is on its way. It will get all the usual crossthingies such as roofrails and loads of black plastic. Enginewise all will remain the same, 4×4 not expected either…
