Another Chinese automaker improving on German design. Earlier on we had Jinma making the BMW i3 cheaper and smaller, and here we have VIDOEV giving two more doors to the Volkswagen Beetle, as seen on on the Shandong EV Expo (intro) in China.

Found in a street not far from my home in Beijing, a kinda white Volkswagen New Beetle with giant Minnie Mouse with pink roses-stickers on both sides. The driver of this Beetle clearly is a Minnie fan and very likely a woman.
The New Beetle was a success in China, it arrived late in its life and stayed on until the very end. China was likely the very last country where it was still sold until late 2012, and for a lotta money! (Another fine New Beetle in pink.) The new-new Beetle however is now on its way, wonder what girly Chinese car buyers will do with that one…

Volkswagen never bothered to make an all-electric Beetle. Well, if you wait too long somebody else will do it for you, whether you like it or not. This is an all electric Beetle Convertible made by a company called ‘Jixing Diandongche’, which translated as ‘Lucky Star Electric cars’, they are from Suzhou in famous copy-cat Zhejiang province.

The old Volkswagen New Beetle was the choice of transport for second wives in China’s big cities. Fierce competition arrived with the Mini that even became subject of a second-wife-joke. Chinese men call their second wife ‘mimi’, which means ‘little secret’. Then those sneaky bastards bought a a Mini for their mimi. Hahaha, its Chinese humor.

Via MotorAuthority. Volkswagen’s new New Beetle will debut at the Shanghai and New York auto shows simultaneously. Press days for the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show start on April 19, for the 2011 New York Auto Show on April 22. The New Beetle will so likely debut in Shanghai on April 22 when the show is already open for the no doubt massive crowds.
