Guangzhou Auto Show Preview: Chevrolet Spark

December 19, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

Shanghai-GM brings the new Chevrolet Spark to the Guangzhou Auto Show and it loox much less exiting than the concept. That is a normal thing to happen indeed but in this case the difference is hugely, and hugely dissapointing. The Spark does’t even seem a very modern car and stands on extremely small tires. Good for fuel consumption I guess but not too good for handling, especially in windy times. The Spark gets a 4-cilinder 1.0 with 50kw and 90nm, mated to a 4-speed auto or 5-speed manual. Price will start around 60.000 yuan.

The last generation Spark was a success until Chery copied it and called it the QQ, which sold for over 10.000 yuan less than the Spark. Let’s see whether Chery will do the same trick again…

Spy Shots: Shanghai-GM Chevrolet Spark Cross

March 19, 2010 by Tycho de Feijter

Shanghai-GM can’t say goodbye to its old Spark. Some said production would be over soon but this machine proves otherwise. It is a cross-kind-of-a-thing with the usual cross stuff  to make it more ugly. Roofrails, check. More plastic on the bumpers, check. Dark plastic around the wheel arches, check. Roofrails, check.
