The Guangzhou-Toyota Leahead i1 EV has been unveiled on on the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The Leahead i1 EV is a new electric car for the Chinese market. It will be launched in 2016, but initially only as a trial operation and only in the city of Guangzou. The i1EV debuted as a concept in Shanghai in April.

This is the new Guangzhou-Toyota Leahead i1, an electric concept car unveiled on the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. Leahead is a new sub-brand under the Guangzhou-Toyota joint venture focused on making cheap electric cars for the masses. It should not be confused with ‘Ranz‘, which is another similar Chinese Toyota brand.

Toyota will launch a new sub-brand in China in 2015, it will be positioned under the Guangzhou-Toyota joint venture. The new sub-brand will be called Lingzhi (领志) in Chinese and Leahead in English. Leahead stands for ‘Leap Ahead’. The brand will focus on cheap electric cars aimed at young and hip car buyers in China.
