Toyota launched the new Vios for the Chinese market. It is made in China by Toyota’s joint venture with First Auto Works, FAW. Chinese motoring press is somewhat dissapointed with the Vios, they had expected a bogger change. “minimum investment for maximum profit”, one journalist said.

The Vios is a medium-sized sedan from FAW-Toyota that doesn’t sell very well. Just like in the rest of the world people get tired of Toyota’s boring design. The new Vios might change that a bit, it got an all new front with an almost over-designed grille. And… there will be a sporty version!, oh yes, a sporty Vios.

The current FAW-Toyota Vios is not a hot seller, most likely because the sedan trunk seems glued to the machine which was designed as a hatchback. Engines are getting a bit old too. But FAW-Toyota wants one car to compete with the many cheap sedans from Brilliance, Chery and BYD so it will bring this facelifted Vios to the Beijing Auto Show in April.
