An extremely rare C4 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, seen in Shanghai by our good friend Leo Yang. The C4 was made from 1983 until 1996, the convertible from 1986 until 1996. The C4 Corvette was never officially exported to China so the chances of meeting one are very small.

Spotted in China: C4 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

The C4 was powered by a 5.7 liter V8. Over the years power went up from 250hp in 1983 to 330 in 1996. This red monster on the pics is a post-facelift model, meaning it was after 1992. Power for the 1992 model year came from the new LT1 engine which was good for a decent 300hp.

    • Black plates mean the car is (was) owned by a foreign company. These black plates have been cancelled a few years ago but cars that had them can keep them. The Benz on the pic you sent me has a diplomatic license plate, recognizable by the red character in front of the number.

      greet!

Black plates with white letters mean that the car is registered to a foreigner. They stopped issuing the black plates in November of ’07 (I bought my car December of ’07, I was disappointed I didn’t get black plates)but when they are black with red, such as the one on your link, that means it is a diplomatic vehicle (my family used to be in the Embassy here). The first 3 numbers show what country they are from and 001 or 002 are the Ambassador’s car.

  2. This looks to be a 1993-only Corvette convertible with the 40th Anniversary package. The Ruby red exterior, interior, top and even wheel center caps are all color keyed.

I agree with you. My uncle had an anniversary edition C4, and it looked EXACTLY the same as this one. The car was nice when it was new but started having lots of issues as it got older. Worst was the every looming threat of overheating while stuck in traffic!
