The facelift includes a new grille, new head lights, new rear lights, new bumpers, and an updated interior with a large new screen on top of the center console.  Engines: 1.8 with 133hp and 1.8 turbo with 160hp. Gearbox: the current 5-speed manual continues but the old 5-speed automatic will not return, it will be replaced by a new 6-speed DCT that was developed with GM. Roewe’s parent SAIC is GM’s partner in the Shanghai-GM joint venture.

Overall a cleaner design, but still not very special, about as exciting as a little gray car parked near a wave-less lake.

  1. Although of itself not a bad effort, although very bland, Roewe need to work at bringing far more cohesion to the design of the range and create a distinctive design language.

At present all the vehicles in the range look like they could be from different brands. One can understand why the MG Rover era desgins are different from the designs produced by SAIC itself, but it is puzzling why the 950, 550 and 350 all look so different.

Of the the three, the 950 is by far the best design and hopefully new vehicles will take cues from it.

  2. Easy, the Roewe 550 was designed and developed by engineers in the UK prior to the NAC merger under SAIC direction.

What became the Roewe 350 started under NAC.

The Roewe 950 is a car designed by GM with a couple of Roewe touches.
