Chinese media say that Volkswagen will launch a Gran Santana hatchback on the Chinese car market in the second half of next year. The Gran Santana will be based on the Santana sedan. Volkswagen is into hatches lately; the Volkswagen Gran Lavida debuted on the Shanghai Auto Show in April and will hit the market later this month.
The Volkswagen Santana sedan was launched on the Chinese car market in December last year. Price starts at 84.900 yuan and ends at 123.800 yuan. It is made in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture. Engines: a 1.4 with 90hp or a 1.6 with 110hp, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The Gran Santana will get the same engines but it will be slightly shorter due its hatchback body style. Price will start around 75.000 yuan.
Compare rare lights with rendering. It is sadly unlikely that Volkswagen, where ‘boring’ is the mission statement, will go for something so exiting…
half hatchback + half wagon = nothing. Gran X = weird cars.
Well for a start they’ll have to not cut back on the back seat. In the saloon it doesn’t fold down and also in the boot at the back it is bare metal. You can read my test drive at http://www.markeaandrews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Talk-VW-New-Santana.pdf
