Peugeot 2008 hits the Chinese auto market

The Peugeot 2008 SUV has been launched on the China car market. Price starts at 99.700 yuan and ends at 136.700 yuan. The Peugeot 2008 is manufactured in China by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture to compete with cars such as the hot selling Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai.
Interior looks very good with nice materials, sporty pedals, spacy dials, and a large touch screen. Power however, disappoints. The only engine available is a rather old 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol unit with only 117hp and 150nm, mated to a 5-speed manual 0r a 4-speed tiptronic automatic. Earlier on we heard Peugeot is also working to fit a 1.2 turbo under the bonnet but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The 2008 is only the second SUV that Peugeot is manufacturing in China after the 3008. But the French have big plans for the future with the 4008 and the China-only 6008 waiting in line to conquer the Chinese SUV market. When you want to win in China you need SUV’s, lots of SUV’s, of all sizes and kinds.
