The ultrahip Toyota C-HR will see production in China, times two. Toyota has two joint ventures in the country and each wants a part of the C-HR action. First up FAW-Toyota which will basically make the car as it is known abroad and under the C-HR name.
Leaked documents have revealed that Lexus is working on a long-wheelbase variant of the RX SUV for China. The new car will debut on the Shanghai Auto Show in April and launch on the Chinese car market in early H2. It will be based on the 308hp RX450h hybrid and it will be called the RX450hL. Lexus does not manufacture any cars locally, even this China-only model will be made in Japan.
The wheelbase will be extended by about 15 centimeters, creating a seven-seat car to compete better with vehicles like the Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90. The L will likely be fully loaded and very expensive. The current range starts at 418.000 yuan and ends at 869.000 yuan for the 450h, so the 450hL will be at least 900.000 yuan.
A beautiful old Toyota Coaster Deluxe minibus, Spotted in China in the far eastern wastelands of Beijing, where villages and villagers are still holding out. The good Coaster was abandoned and very dirty but not in an overly bad condition. A local told me it hadn’t been used since the Olympic Games, which was in back 2008.
The Toyota Yaris L has been launched on the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, and this one actually doesn’t look as bad as we thought it would look, and that is a good thing. It still ain’t pretty though. The Yaris L is the sedan version of the Chinese-market Yaris L hatchback.
The Toyota Vios FS has been launched on the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, showing that Toyota just can’t stop making ever more uglier cars. The Vios FS is the hatchback version of the Chinese-market Vios sedan. The Vios FS, formerly known as the Vios 3, is expected to go on sale in early 2017.
Strange things are happening at Toyota in China. Yesterday we saw the first photos of the Yaris sedan, set to launch three years after the Yaris hatchback. And today we have the Vios hatchback, set to launch… three years after the Vios sedan arrived. Stranger still; it will be called the ‘Vios 3’. And like the Yaris and the Vios sedan, the Vios 3 hatchback is decidedly unpretty.
Toyota seems to be caught in a design language that is not appealing, to put it mildly. Their cars are not selling well. But instead of changing course they keep adding ugliness to their lineup. Case in point: the upcoming Yaris L sedan. The front is a horrible mess and the rest of the car is a bland as a plastic bag.
A wondrous white Toyota Avalon, Spotted in China in east Beijing, looking a bit bland but not unpretty. The good Toyota was in fine shape, smooth in paint and shiny in chrome, no rust or busts, and original down until the dark gray alloys.
This is the crazy Ranz RF-EA1 concept car, as it was launched on the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. Design is brilliant, a futuristic four-door coupe shape with a large greenhouse, air ducts in the rear fenders, and an absolute eye catching V-shaped grille with a the Ranz logo in emerald green.
The facelifted Lexus IS has been unveiled on the Beijing Auto Show, sporting a heavily creased from fascia with the largest and craziest grille we saw on the show. Even the local Chinese automakers won’t go this far! Other updates include the smaller front lights, completely new bumpers, and new taillights.
