Chery has filed a complaint against Mercedes-Benz at the ‘International Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce’. The reason: in 2016 Mercedes-Benz applied for a Chinese trademark for their new EQ sub-brand of electric vehicles. The problem: Chery has been selling EVs under their eQ sub-brand since 2014. Chery applied for a trademark in 2014 and it was granted in 2015. The application of Mercedes-Benz is pending. The company hopes to launch its EQ brand in China in 2018.
The difference: eQ and EQ.

This wondrous white little wonder is the Luxing iStar, a new LSEV that I met it on the the 2017 Jinan EV Show. It is obviously not a Mercedes-Benz because the three-pointed star points down instead of up. But the grille and bumper do look very familiar…

The monstrous Mercedes-Benz G-Class truck is only available with tree-killing and fish-murdering V8 and V12 engines, and that ain’t good. A Chinese company decided to show the way and save planet earth. On the 2017 Shandong EV Show they came up with this Qifeng K7, a G-Class clone but with a smaller footprint and an electric motor.

The first photos of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLA. This is the China-spec variant, made locally by the Beijing-Benz joint venture. The facelift includes new headlights, new bumpers, a whole lot of new wheels, a grille, and an updated interior.

Drama in the great city of Chongqing in China! A brand new white 2017 Mercedes-Benz G500 crashed into a pole on the pavement, and seconds after that it was hit by black brand new G500. Happily, nobody got hurt. The driver of the white car was making a test drive, the driver of the black car has bought his G500 just a week ago in the same shop as where the white one was from. Can’t make it up…

A double Benz on a cold winter afternoon; a R129 Mercedes-Benz SL500 coupe and a W140 S320 sedan, Spotted In China parked side by side on a car market in north Beijing. Both Benzes were in good shape but very dusty and dirty, clearly in need of a little maintenance and a little love.

A beautiful Mercedes-Benz 560SEL, Spotted in China on the parking lot of a used-car market in the far north of Beijing. The poor old Benz was in bad shape and clearly abandoned. But it can be saved with a lot of love, parts, and cash. The wine red paint was relatively fresh under the thick protective layer of dust.

Here we have an ultra rare Trasco 1000 SEL, a stretched limousine based on the W126 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL. There is a flag pole holder on the left-front fender, just behind the indicator, indicating this is an ex-government car.
I found the enormous machine standing outside of a rather crappy car repair shop just south of the Third Ring Road in Beijing. They said they were restoring it but I didn’t see much work going on. The paint was obviously in poor shape, but the body itself was fine, no rust or rot in sight, so a good new paint job will do miracles here.

Earlier this year I stumbled upon an impressive collection of rare Mercedes-Benz sedans in Beijing. The cars were displayed in a former Mercedes dealer near the Goldenport race track in the northeast of the capital. The dealership is selling RVs now, and the collection has been moved elsewhere. Starting now with a very clean W126 280SE S-Class.

A black and beautiful Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman stretched limousine, Spotted in China near the Goldenport race track in Beijing. The big Benz was in very good shape and basically looked like new. Paint and shine were perfect and everything was original, down until the optional AMG alloys.
