Spotted in China: Smart Roadster

A fine red Smart Roadster seen in the great city of Putian in Fujian Province. The Roadster was made from 2003 until 2006 but was never officially exported to China, how this red example ended up all the way in Putian is therefore a mystery. Still, we are happy to see it because the Smart Roadster was one of the coolest little sportcars ever made. Very light, engine in the middle, and rear wheel drive! Mercedes-Benz killed the Roadster and Roadster Coupe after only 43.000 examples were made, because the warranty costs were deemed to high. A very sad end for a very great car…

So close to greatness. That is a car they so need to build again, just doing the the few things they messed up in the first attempt right this time.

Mine exactly the same and year, which I’m upgrading to 105bhp now. Great inexpensive, cheap to run Sports Car. Terrific fun, especially with the paddle shift fitted. Mercedes-Benz loss on high production, warranty costs etc. is our our gain.
    Thank you Mecedes-Benz
